Angelic Pretty: Drink Me ReRelease

Angelic Pretty are ReReleasing their Drink Me series, a cute dress with an Alice in Wonderland theme. This is such a cute and simple dress, it comes in really soft shades of blue and pink.

angelic pretty, drink me, rerelease, mintyfrills, lolita fashion, sweet lolita, kawaii,

I always love scallop details and its cute how they mix scallops and melted details. It also has some cute beads that look like water drops. Since the dress is quite simple and only one color they use different textures to keep it interesting. With the pearly silk fabric along with the sheer striped trim and sheer melting parts. I love the 'drink me' tag on the jsk, I wish they would have it on the OP too instead of just having 'drink me' on the bodice. The jsk had full shirring and adjustable straps which should make a pretty comfortable fit even though I know not everyone likes the empire waist.

All in all this is a cute dress.~

Improved Outfits [1]: Color Coordination - 1 Base color

There are many ways of putting together a lolita outfit and I want to talk about some different ways of  coordinating colors. Lets start simple with some looks at how to match with the base color of the main piece.
sweet lolita, pink, kawaii, cute, mintyfrills,
I think many start with wearing a neutral white blouse to go with pastel colors. Though I think going with all pink with a pink dress makes for a much cuter outfit. You could also make it more interesting by matching with a different shade of the same color, but lets talk more about that in a future post! While doing this type of outfit I would favor ankle socks over otk socks since your legs break off the color scheme. If you don't like bare legs I would suggest thin white stockings with the pink outfit and black fishnets with the black one.

horror candy shop, halloween, cute, angelic pretty, mintyfrills
Even though this dress is in the grey colorway you can choice to treat black as the base color since it has the black ribbons and a lot of black in the print. Even though I would love a coord using this dark grey as the base and black as the accent, its hard to find items in this kind of grey from Angelic Pretty. Even though light grey has become more prevalent in many collections.

In the next guide I will go into how to do outfits with more colors!

Coord: Sugary Dreams

I put together this sweet and dreamy outfit that I think would be really comfortable. The heart of this look is the amazing printed T-shirt from Oceans in Space.
sugary dreams, oceans in space, WC, skinnydip, yru, mintyfrills, spank!

So using the t-shirt as a starting point this print has both lavender and pink, so I decided to match with those two! Since the base is mostly lavender I want the colors beside it to be pink. A light baby pink for the pants and cap, and a bubblegum pink for the coat. The cap is from Fig & Viper, the fluffy coat from WC and the pants are from Spank!

Then matched with lavender accessories, I think the iridescent look of the bag and shoes help give it a bit of an vaporwave aesthetic. The bag is from KOL ME BABY, shoes from YRU and sunglasses from Skinnydip.

Click each picture below for shop links to each item.

You could potentially finish off this look perfectly with a mint green wig and of course some more accessories!

Angelic Pretty: Horror Candy Shop

Horror Candy Shop, Angelic Pretty, Print Series, Mintyfrills, Halloween,
This weekend Angelic Pretty released Horror Candy Shop, an adorable Halloween themed print. I really like it! I think the colors available gives a lot of different options for coordinated, it looks so different in each color! Sadly the orange one is a Tokyo exclusive.

Horror Candy Shop, Angelic Pretty, Print Series, Mintyfrills, Halloween,
I like the style of the OP. the collar looks like a bat, which is just perfect! I think the empire waist is more liked than the loose no waist style. If you're worried about sizing at least the jsk has full shirring. There is also a new illustration by Imai Kira that they are selling as a postcard, its adorable as always!

Horror Candy Shop, Angelic Pretty, Print Series, Mintyfrills, Halloween,
The jsk is pretty simple but it works well I think, the black Ribbon on the bodice looks nice. The upside with this is that its very versatile for making a lot of different style outfits. The print has adorable plush animals and Halloween lollipops. For all the colorways the print has details in pink and blue. For a really stand out outfit you should try to coord it with the same shade of pink or blue (or both!). It will really make the print pop.

For all the colorways the print has details in pink and blue. For a really stand out outfit you should try to coord it with the same shade of pink or blue (or both!). It will really make the print pop. For example the Imai Kira illustration further up is drawn with hair in the same shade of blue.

There was also this totally amazing orange version of Horror Candy Shop released for the Vouge Fashion's Night Out in Tokyo this weekend. It looks so good and this color and it makes me sad that the only other dress in this kind of orange color is 'Halloween Treats'. Last years Halloween print that also go a special edition orange colorway released for that years Vouge Fashion's Night Out. Please release more prints in this color Angelic Pretty!

Angelic Pretty: Lovely Bathroom

angelic pretty, lovely bathroom, yume kawaii, mintyfrills, sweet lolita
If you know anything about my current fave aesthetic you can probably guess that I love the new print series from Angelic Pretty called 'Lovely Bathroom'. I love yume kawaii (dreamy cute) aesthetic and this definitely falls into that category. The 'bathtime' theme really goes well with it since things like pajamas are also super yume kawaii. I would love to have this dress and do outfits with the accessories I made to go with the bubblebath dress from Metamorphose.

angelic pretty, lovely bathroom, yume kawaii, mintyfrills, sweet lolita
I think both cuts and the choices of colorways perfectly compliment the theme. They also look really comfy. Though I know not everyone likes this style of empire waist of tent style no waist cuts, I think it does suit this dress. I adore that the print is two contrasting pastel colors since that is how I love to coord outfits. Two or Three (or why not more?) contrasting pastels is totally my cup of tea. This type of colorways makes it easy to put together an outfit with the two colors from the print or by adding a third color and accessorizing with the two colors from the print.

I think this might be one of my favorite releases this year! This dress will be available for preorder at the Angelic Pretty shop in Tokyo this Saturday! (September 15) Still having fun making these graphics, really hope you like them since I put a lot of time into them!

If you like super sweet dresses but more into indie brands check out my blog post about this cute dress!

Long Ears & Sharp Ears: Hiding in the Gift Box

long ears & sharp ears, studio, Hiding in the Gift Box, sweet lolita, print series, taobao, mintyfrills
I've been looking a lot at different taobao brands and there is so many amazing lolita brands on taobao. This adorable dress comes from Long Ears & Sharp Ears and is called 'Hiding in the Gift Box'. This is such a cute original print series and looks really sweet. So who is hiding in the Gift Box? Little cute kittens and snugly bun buns. Its a quite detailed print and has an adorable art style.

It comes in two different cuts, a jsk and a shorter salopette. The jsk is really cute and looks like it has a really nice shape. I love the fancy gift ribbon on the bodice and that it goes across vertically too on the side like cute gift wrapping. To separate the boarder print and the rest of the print it looks like draped scallops as a curtain which makes the dress look less plain.

They have some great coordinate photos showing that dress would be great for a ott sweet lolita coord. This outfit is just really adorable. I notices a lot of taobao shops have amazing photoshoots, cant wait to share more of them with you all!

I also just had to show you some of these adorable pictures with this little girl! I'm not sure if this kids size dress is available right now but they had some other lolita dresses in kids size. This is just so cute!

For another cute dress from a taobao brand, check out Pumpkin Cat's dress series Lemon Cat!

I put together all these graphics myself, hope you like them and thanks for reading!

Pumpkin Cat: Lemon Cat

Pumpkin Cat, Lemon Cat, Mintyfrills, Otome, dress
Wanted to show you all and write about this adorable dress from taobao brand Pumpkin Cat! They make a lot of cute original designs, I previously made a post about a cute gingham dress from them. This adorable series is called 'Lemon Cat'. I just love the print design on this. Both the print and style of the dress is more otome than lolita. Its fun and playful!

Pumpkin Cat, Lemon Cat, Mintyfrills, Otome, dress
The jsk works both on its on or with a blouse under. Which is nice so that you can vary outfits and its nice that you can wear it without in the summer. The belt and Bow is also detachable. The little kittens in the print are so adorable!

Pumpkin Cat, Lemon Cat, Mintyfrills, Otome, dress
The sailor collar really suits the style of this dress and I think I would love to have this version! Both versions is a pretty simple dress but this is also reflected in the price being quite low. I want to try to talk more about different brands and not just the most expensive ones.

Angelic Pretty: Ghost Night Bride

Angelic Pretty, Ghost Night Bride, new release, lolita fashion, kawaii, mintyfrills

In anticipation for Halloween coming up Angelic Pretty have released Ghost Night Bride. Its got a slightly Gothic aesthetic, but the cut, details and print motifs it still keeps Angelic Pretty's regular sweet style. Though I think with the right styling and coordinate those who want to could probably make this look quite Gothic.
I decided to make my own layouts to show off the new release instead of just reposting the pictures everyone has already seen, I hope you like them! Please drop a comment to let me know if you do.~

Angelic Pretty, Ghost Night Bride, new release, lolita fashion, print, mintyfrills
I've seen people compare this to Vampire Requiem from Alice and the Pirates, but I don't agree on them being very similar. I think the thing that most makes people relate them is that the color palette of this print (the red details on these kinds of colorways) is more prevalent in Alice and the Pirates collections. It has some elements in common like gates, castles and roses. But if you look closer at the Angelic Pretty print the theme is more 'wedding of people super into Halloween'. It has lots of cute things like cakes, stars and a romantic set table. Vampire Requiem also has clouds over the boarder followed by nothing, its plain one color above that. This is not my kind of color palette, but it looks good and the colors are nicely balanced.

Angelic Pretty, Ghost Night Bride, new release, lolita fashion, OP, one-piece dress, mintyfrills
The OP has a the fake blouse style that AP tend to do a lot. Personally I'm not a fan of this type of premade coordinate. Don't get me wrong; this dress is definitely pretty and looks elegant. But I think it limits your options to be creative with making your own outfits and makes it harder to not have every outfit look the same. With difference with having a regular OP and the fake blouse style like this is that they are already picking black as the main accent color in addition to the colorway of the dress. So you would have to do a three color coord (with two colors decided for you). I wish this dress was a bit more special and different from the jsk. They have the same waistline and the biggest difference other than the fake blouse is there being organza bows instead of lacing and no shirring.

Angelic Pretty, Ghost Night Bride, new release, lolita fashion, jsk, dress, mintyfrills
So for the reasons stated above I would prefer the jsk, since it gives you a lot more options for outfits. The cut is similar to OP and really basic high waist Angelic Pretty cut with cupcake skirt. I Think this dress would be super pretty to coord with grey, luckily Angelic Pretty have been doing more items in grey colorways! The print features three shades of grey so there are plenty of options. The latest release of the milky cross blouse has a really pretty silver grey version that I think would look really pretty with any colorway of this dress. I made a little palette below to help you pick out the colors of the print that would be great to make outfits with.
